What I know is that it's not California. It's a darwinian US capitalism that creates winners, hangers on... and losers. If you fall off the treadmill, you're gone. No real support, no national medical, it's lost its heart and it's sense of community, that we're all in it together. It elects Trump
No state governor can fix it. I'm sure that Newsom is a decent person, but he couldn't begin to build homes for the homeless fast enough... and that's actually just treating the symptom, not the cause. Medical bankruptcies, lack of support and rehab for the troubled and struggling. Its not Newsom.
The cause of homelessness is the "less" of "homes". Tying it to systemic problems is just a way to avoid the most basic solution. If these encampments can go up almost overnight, how the fuck can't more sustainable, safer dwellings do the same? You're just kicking the can down the road.
How are you here rightly knocking the drawbacks of US capitalism and backing the wealthy CA guv? His wealth makes his actions around the unhoused even more ghoulish.
Having lived in many countries for near 50 yrs does inform my opinions, and on homelessness I'm v aware that the US is unique in that it creates homelessness faster than 'solutions' can be found. Newsom is the kid w his finger in the dike; well-meaning, but fixing the symptom doesn't fx the disease
First, talking about homelessness in terms of "disease" is obviously part of the problem. Not that failing infrastructure (a dam breaking) is better! Catastrophizing isn't helpful. Second, Newsom isn't interested in helping them, he's a rich guy who feels icky about the poors.
