One of the big issues with tidal vs wind is maintenance Anything under water gets barnacles, etc, growing on them and needs regular cleaning, unlike wind This additional maintenance needs lots of labour/man hours to keep it going This is one challenge to uts cost effectiveness
The fact that there is no fuel to purchase offsets the cost of maintenance. But My god man, do you have any idea how much maintenance is required for coal and nuclear power plants? Let's take nuclear which is over the top. It takes 110 years to decommission a nuke plant that gave 40yrs of energy.

Indeed. Its a difficult environment (salt and metals!) which is why despite so much effort over a long period of time its not delivered v much.
