Schools try, but when Reagan started the process of stripping the fairness doctrine regulations from news broadcasts, he birthed fake news. When the information could be one-sided, indoctrination became easy. The 80s started us down a dark path.

The Fairness Doctrine had nothing to do with what news was covered or how and fake news has always existed.

But they have to perpetuate the myth that tabloids never existed until then. While talking about how education matters. Make it make sense. 🤷🏻‍♀️

That old policy never prevented propaganda and didn’t apply to news and could never apply to cable channels.

Fairness Doctrine introduced in 1949, was designed so both sides of issues would be presented by broadcast news, pre-cable. In 1987, Reagan started slicing it up, and it never applied to cable. We heard about Watergate and Vietnam, not the whole story, but some. Cable was the internet of its time.

Not sure what you think you’re doing with this reply… It wasn’t a news policy. It applied to local broadcast. And it could never apply to cable.

This lady is nuts & trolling for engagement. I blocked & reported, since most of her replies are the same nonsense. FYI she has a website & LinkedIn so probably trying to use replies for content.

It’s so strange; I grew up in the 80s, but my dad actually did teach me about propaganda & marketing. Often using Fox. I teach my kid now. It’s hard to find good information, but screening out bad isn’t complicated.

Me, too. I taught history for a few years, and you'd be surprised how many rural people who have never met any of the people they are worried about refuse to believe anything else. They need a boogy man and still the government is there for them. Missouri has had a republican supermajority for

You’ve taught history but you don’t think fake news or the boogey man existed until 1987/1996? Yikes.

for years. We will vote for something progressive, reproductive rights, paid sick leave, etc, only to have them overturn it. These are constitutional amendments they just wave away or laws they just change. It's so frustrating because many run unopposed.

We need some of those fired cia folks teaching classes. I’m rural too & most people here want the same things. But you’re right-they’re all scared of a bogeyman.
