I feel like I need to point this out: Russia is losing the war and has been since Day 1. With three years of war, they lost the only provincial capital they didn't control prior to it, and have been unable to break through what are essentially empty fields and ghost towns.

Churchill is reputed to have said that if you can destroy 10% of an attacking force, you can eventually destroy all of it. Although there's no explicit quote that I can find, this is in line with his expressed view of the power of sustained resistance. Seems apropos.

Also yes tactically it's kind of insane how many men did Russia send to die to take Bakhmut? Wasn't that supposed to open up all these territories for them to rush into? Last I heard they were still trying to wrap up control of Chasiv Yar which was... a couple miles away?

We don't have to "win", we just need to hold the line until Russia collapses. "Eternal war" is a fascist meme, not a sustainable industrial policy.

Ultimately it will come down to this: how many Russians are willing to die for Putin's ambitions? It's an endurance contest.

They’ve taken a fair amount of Ukrainian land, and kidnapped and replicated an unacceptable amount of innocent Ukrainian people. All of these should be given back and they should go home to where they were before this invasion.

Russian news is reporting Ukraine lost over 1,000 troops in 1 day. I can find no other report of this, but this appears to be what's reported to the Russian people.
