The problem is that there are a lot of people speaking for multiple different groups of people as if they are all of one mind. "Indian" is contentious because some people prefer it, some people consider it inaccurate to who they are, and plenty of opinions in between. (1/2)

There isn't one singular opinion to rule them all over this issue, as some people even dislike the term "Native American." The best thing to do is to try to learn different indigenous groups' names and refer to those. "Indigenous people" also seems to be widely embraced.

One last thing. Some of that wording is iffy on my end. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of indigenous people do NOT like the term, and that's essentially why I think it's best to avoid it (except when talking about Asian Indians from India ofc) Kbye ✌️
