Hard to argue with Ross Gittins. If Albanese plans to just sit on his huge majority without doing anything useful to address climate change, generational inequity, housing, tax rorts and plenty else, he should quit and bequeath the job to someone with the bottle. www.smh.com.au/business/the...

Couldn’t agree more. Albanese is more interested in clinging to power than actually doing anything visionary and transformational with it. He’s deeply institutionalised and doesn’t have a scintilla of life experience outside of politics. A career party hack! #auspol

I'm not persuaded he ever had 'bottle' in the first instance.

I think Albo is like the dog that catches the car. He's chased it for so long, that now he's caught it, he doesn't know what to do next. He will sure as eggs waste his opportunity to make use of the governments huge majority.

"Speaking of retirement, that’s what Albanese should do if he wants to run a government but can’t bring himself to govern. No shame in being past it." He is definitely past it, but can you imagine Marles getting the job?

Marles would be a disaster. I am hoping that Chalmers isn't as risk averse and timid as he appears (ie maybe he's falling into Albanese narrative).

Rattus, that paywall!. I kept my subscription to the New Scientist, the Quarterly Essay, and Le Monde - I need to prioritise what I read these days - there is too much and that doesn’t include what I read for fun 😊 My life is so hard *sigh* 😄

Agree. Insipid comes to mind when I see him or hear him speak. His humble beginnings seem to be a distant memory as he continues conservatively, gingerly, cautiously, self-centredly towards a comfortable retirement. Thought this would be a time of enlightenment and change. How wrong was I!

Alboweasel is like a loyal head house slave in the neo-liberal/USA slave owner's house. He'll advocate politely for better conditions for the wage/field slaves. But he will remain loyal to the slave owner. He knows on which side his bread is buttered.

I have a sinking feeling that this government is going to stay fearful, timid and waste their opportunity. Why obtain power and not use it?

Presumably because their love of power and the trappings that go with exceeds any desire to do something with that power. They’re like ‘self-funded’ retirees with millions in super refusing to run down their capital

Albo will instead continue to use his power to control the minutiae of his small policy platform while staring into a globe wave of fascism amidst a mass extinction event.

Labor has turned into a party defined by uninspired managerial competence. Their main focus is preserving privilege and comfort for themselves, along with securing lucrative corporate positions after leaving politics. Albanese will cry on demand but never deliver on the promises of his youth.
