I know I bring up this elephant in the room a lot, but it warrants saying again because it's rampant in the writing community now: STOP USING AI GENERATED IMAGES TO PROMOTE YOUR WRITING! If you can't be arsed to hire an illustrator or use stock photos/art, I don't trust anything you've written.
I have to say every time I see an AI ad, I'm immediately switched off whatever they're advertising. Whether it's a novel, a podcast, or a big bucks Marvel movie. I'm totally switched off.
Market research has proven that overuse of AI *reduces* buyer intent, but they're pushing it into everything hoping to desensitize us to it so we give them money. It just makes me hate it more with each passing day.

Oh yes. Tons of them. But when I searched just now, with a huge dose of irony, the AI overview did a beautiful job of explaining it.

If I see a book with a ChatGPT Cover, I automatically assume its fucking TRASH. Why would I want to look at or read something that no one bothered to take the time to write or draw. 100% Instant Trash. A BLANK COVER WITH JUST THE TITLE IS BETTER!
And now we're even seeing books where the author forgets to pull their prompts out of the novel because they care that little about actual effort.
The most infuriating I saw is when a big publisher (imagine Penguin Books) put an AI-slop cover on a book without telling the author (the author wasn't happy).

Seriously, we are artists, just like the illustrators whose art is being stolen to make AI slop. Chat GPT steals our shit, too. We need to be showing solidarity and rejecting ALL AI generated art/writing/animation/audio, not accepting the ones that are convenient to us.
If you don't care about illustrators' work getting stolen for the plagiarism machine, I'm going to assume you don't really care about writers, either, and that your work is AI generated. I can and often DO block other writers on sight for seeing them using AI art. Be better.
I would like to nuance a bit, and say officially published work that is made public should have man made covers. I know people who write stuff in their room and self publish it.
There's completely free stock art all over the internet. It took me about five minutes to find, download, paste, and credit the free stock art on the cover of my RPG PDF. That I wrote in my room and self published. Even plagiarized art used without permission would be better than feeding AI.
Not that anyone should use plagiarized art. Rather, plagiarizing one piece of art is one instance of plagiarism but using an AI legitimizes plagiarism and teaches it to be better at plagiarizing.
That's not how nuance works. You're not adding nuance, you're making excuses. I'm a self published author, that doesn't suddenly make it okay. It's still plagiarism, environmental destruction, and sweatshop labor whether I'm old and/or self published, or if I'm a major author.

Okay? They still shouldn't be using AI art to promote it or use it as a cover? There are literally hundreds of thousands of stock images that can be used that aren't AI generated.
I understand your point of view. I just feel like we are trying to spread the message of why it is not ethical, but that it will not necessarily reach the masses, especially older people
nope. if you use ai for the art, I am never trusting your writing as human made.
Or using ai voices to voice your writting. Your using ai images for your voice acting. Or using ai text for your drawing ideas or voice acting etc
I used to do graphic design in the UK's National ice Hockey League, a team that was temporarily 'on hold' is starting up again next season and have revamped their logo with an AI design. It is crap. A few of us have gone mad and pointed it out but the saddest thing is most fans simply don't care 😞
I wish people would also get better at spotting AI generated content, people have often told me my content is obviously generated, which makes me sad because I’ve poured so much of myself into it and spent so many years writing it. It’s the internet too so once someone has made up their mind…
That is unfortunately another problem entirely, and the blame is split evenly between the people jumping the gun and accusing legitimate artists, often in bad faith, and the rampant AI use in the community in the first place.
True. If less people used it there would be less of a reason to assume the origin. It’s infuriating because I’m a huge proponent of AI, but not if it’s used to replace real artists and cut off their livelihood.
It could be used as a tool to help remove the concept of a wage gap, allowing us to implement UBI and take care of EVERYONE, but instead it’s going to be wielded by the rich against the poor even further solidify their power. It’s such a fucking shame, we could be on our way to a utopia.
Yes, unfortunately, the worst thing to come out of all of this is the souring of the public's opinions of AI as a potential force for good, because they've been using it for the opposite. It NEVER should have been implemented for art or writing.

If someone uses AI images to advertise their content, be it a youtube video, music, or writing, I just start assuming that the content behind it is AI as well, and give it none of my time. I've never used ChatGPT or any of these stupid AI things, I won't listen to them either or watch them.
I agree with the sentiment. If they can't be arsed to make it, I can't be arsed to watch it. There's already AI that can pretend to watch and comment, so they can just use that.
if there is ai art, their writing is automatically ai written to me and I will never trust that persons work ever again.
