I walked into the Eastern Market stop and couldn't stop myself from laughing at how many NG were there (plus a couple from some agency i didn't identify). The one guardsman i made eye contact with was grinning, i *think* at the ridiculousness of it. Didn't seem like a malicious grin.

I learned today that one of the insidious things they are doing with all these troops is that because extra pay will kick in by law at 30 days, they are "only" deploying them for 29 days could have housed and fed every homeless person in DC for the cost but nope, the spite is their point

This is apparently an old armed services move, I was told by a friend who was deployed for 29 days to New Orleans to help clean up after Hurricane Katrina.

In keeping with the Katrina thing, I can’t wait to see the service medal these Guards get for this. The military version of a title-only promotion at a job.

Yes it's a way to not pay housing allowance which they probably could use to make rent when an E4 with 2 years makes 3k a month and average rent for 1 bedroom in dc metro area is 2300 a month.
