Remember, folks, it is a CRIME to draw with sidewalk chalk on the streets and sidewalks of Washington DC so when you do it be sure to invoke your Fifth Amendment right to remain silent if asked about it. #ChalkCrime

It is a crime to draw on the street with chalk in DC? How? Surely we have some canon of construction that criminal laws are presumed invalid if they are inherently, and on their face, stupid.
It’s all federal property there. It’s like for Native Americans on the rez, any crime is a federal offense. There is tribal law but I don’t know all that. I worked at a medium security federal prison in Colorado and that’s where I learned it about a guy who did a burglary and stole a tv.
Not all of DC is federal property. And where it is, authority lies with Congress not trump
No just a significant portion of the city. This hasn’t stopped trump yet.

I don't know if you're being serious or not. It seems ridiculous that something that washes away so easily can be called a crime. Weird? How did such an ordinance ever get passed?
There's a person I follow on Instagram who stumbles across a lot of it in NYC www.instagram.com/karinschall/
MAGA: What are you in here for? American: I drew a chalk rainbow on the sidewalk. You? MAGA: I killed 20 children in a school with an AK-47. American: 🥺
And be sure when you take a pic of it and post it to social media that you don’t confess to doing it yourself. It’s never “I did this” or “Look what I did.” It’s always “SOMEONE did this” or “Look what SOMEONE did.”
Did any DC case law define chalk within that statute, @benjaminwittes.lawfaremedia.org? It's not permanent, so I don't think it fits the definition of "deface." When, where, why did a jury--if--make chalk criminal? Hell, teeny peeny potus' face paint nowadays is harder to remove than sidewalk chalk.
That's a lot of six year old to be arrested for playing hopscotch.
😁 Good advice!
SOMEONE is a chalk criminal! Help us, big brother!!
At least that's what SOME people say.
Many people say
“Many people are doing”
Keep your hoagies handy.
So, and I ask this as someone across the pond through ignorance and definitely not as a suggestion, if someone chalked a picture of donnie on a pavement (sidewalk) and then let dogs shit on it, are the chalkers or dog owners more criminal?
How lovely!!!!
Someone begging for the death penalty here.
1. Flip the House, flip the Senate. 2. Vote, Vote, Vote, we can win it. 3. Arrest the tyrant, 4. Put him in jail. 5. Render justice, 6. Or Democracy fails. 7. With Liberty our guide 8. We make it strong. 9. Working together 10. It won't take long.
It’s good to at least see a plan!
But it's OK to stab police with flag poles and spray them with bear spray, etc. #MakeItMakeSense #NeverForget www.bbc.com/news/world-u...

Interesting. In CA it was ruled that since it’s not permanent damage and goes away with the rain, it’s not vandalism.
That’s the way it was in DC too until tr*mp took over
How about reverse-graffity? Use letter-stencil for the colours in letters. share.google/0z8wZoHDUi9y...
Cry "Witch hunt!"
OTO, if you take a crap in the Capitol, Trump will pardon you.
my "freedom of bark" was infringed for a month or so earlier this year by the city of asheville. what finally got them to stop was many neighbors drawing their own chalk "graffiti" in solidarity and self-reporting the "crimes".
The irony is that chalk detectives, like homicide detectives, draw a chalk outline around the evidence.
And I'm just gonna leave this here rain.works/products/inv...
Since Trump took over the sidewalk chalk crime spree is out of control.
Straight to jail!!! 🤣
Those are beautiful!
He is a national treasure of trompe l’oeil!💖
Waiting for the very good DOJ lawyers to charge sidewalk chalkers with insurrection and ask for the death penalty.
Meanwhile there’s no DC grand jury that will back the injustices of Trump’s DOJ.
Doodling on the public ROW that our tax dollars pay for is not a crime. The intent of the Law being referenced is not to prosecute such actions. It’s supposed to pertain to permanent graffiti, and the like.
§ 22–3312.01. Defacing public or private property. Another one of those laws that passed back when everyone thought prosecutors would be "reasonable" in enforcing it, so nobody cared about the broad power, not thinking that someone may want to use it for persecution. (Disclaimer: Not your lawyer)
"To mar or spoil the appearance or surface of; disfigure"? I think beauty is in the eye of the chalk holder.
With chalk?
Seriously?!
Fuck them hoes. I'm playing hopscotch.
Pics or it didn’t happen!
All in for #ChalkCrime
Remember, you can hide chalk inside of the barrel of a 50 caliber sniper rifle. If they can't find the chalk, there is no evidence of a crime.
Delay,.. the rain will rid us of any evidence 🔥
Oh dear. Lots of children in my neighborhood draw with chalk on the sidewalks. And someone wrote Free DC on theirs and left chalk for others to add messages. Did I? No comment.
DC should become covered in chalk
If I recall correctly Guy Mason Park near the russian embassy has an actual chalkboard. I wonder if that is somehow different
Gosh, that's such a shame, someone leaving chalk around like that. 😆
IF tossing a sandwich cannot be prosecuted as a crime I’m pretty sure drawing with chalk is gonna be allowed. First amendment in fleeting form.
I encourage families to flood the streets with children and chalk. Let’s see the cops and the guard start arresting children. Fight Back!
If someone writes “Constitution” on the sidewalk, like in front of the National Guard, and they walk around it, can you say they’re literally bypassing the Constitution?
