USAID is not a neutral force of good in the world
Right. Saving millions of lives is not on balance a force of good.
USAID is the “humanitarian” wing of US foreign policy which has been used to carry out nefarious projects all over the world www.thenation.com/article/poli...
USAID grossly imperfect but it also saves millions of lives. I think that's a net positive.
I think when you couple it with it’s role as a soft power vehicle for American Imperialism- that’s debatable- and I don’t think it should be defunded the way it is right now/ but it is interesting that it was the first thing Congressional Dems managed to show up for
Soft power is better than using military force and saving lives is better than letting people die.
Soft power is used to keep billions of people beholden to a system that does them great harm
Also this post is not about voting- this is about the fact that the left who the Democrats rely on for a lot of policy organizing was busy fighting against a genocide they were backing
It's generally a tactical mistake for the Democrats to have as their only message for the left of their voter base "it will be worse under the other guy". Because that translates as "you will never get anything you actually want from us".
Yeah, Biden-Harris's massive climate change work (vs a guy who is dismantling it), pro rights actions (vs a guy who is dismantling all of it) and having the largest % of Americans with health coverage (vs a party which is working to dismantle Medicaid and medical research) is doing nothing.
the last point about % of Americans with health coverage feels like being spat in the face at this point. it's a moral abomination that democrats should be leading the charge against.
Dems are leading the charge against Trump/Musk/GOP attempts to slash Medicaid and Medicare and the ACA.
because they are conservatives that are desperate to maintain the status quo
and as electoral messages go, that's not very Pokemon Go To The Polls of them.
