OK but he isn’t black, his character design was based on a white actor (Telly Savalas) & his skin tone is the same as Superman’s & Lois Lane’s

Right about Kojak, WAY OFF about skin tone 🤣
Now put them side to side in the same lighting. You get Superman & Lois in daylight & Lex at night. Sneaky.
This reminds me how much I loved Wendell Pierce as Perry this time around.
I’m dying 😭😭😭😭
This is embarrassing
Let me guess, you “don’t see color”?
Hey, I wanted a black Lex in live action. I’m just saying that while I see why people think this Lex is biracial, he isn’t
So you wanted the *villain* to be Black in live action but not the heroes. Do you not get that making the villain Black but not making the heroes Black is racist? It's perpetuating the "scary Black man" trope. It's allowing Black actors to work *only* if they play the unsympathetic character.
Wanting Lex Luther to be Black is *not* "proof that I'm not racist." It's racist.
So if I don’t think he’s black in the cartoon, I’m racist, and if I wanted him to be black (played specifically by Denzel Washington) in live action, I’m racist. OK
You say this as though these two things are contradictory but they're not. Two different things can both be racist. If multiple people tell you that in a situation, you're saying racist things, when do they become credible? Everyone is racist. The key to fighting racism is accepting that.
I gave you the reason that what you said is racist. Instead of examining that, you took it personally. You can't eliminate racism in yourself if you get upset when someone says you did something racist. As a white person, I will inevitably do something racist. That's why I listen.
As a non-white person, I’m not taking instruction on anti-racism from a white person
You’re actually the first person saying that any of this is racist
For the record I’d also be down with a black Superman. Calvin Ellis, Clark Kent, Val-Zod, either way doesn’t matter. Diversity is good.
Not with that attitude he isn’t. I’ve never seen the series, does he specifically say he is white or black in it? Or have any of the creators?
The creators very explicitly said his appearance is based on a white actor. I think that’s as definitive as anyone involved has been. He never said he was white in any of the DCAU shows as far as I know.
I don’t want to wake up to Louvre so while it’s still all fun & games I should mention that there’s a decades running joke among Black people where we ‘adopt’ characters that code like us as Black since historically our media representation has left much to be desired. That’s what we’re doing here.
I'm curious if it was the same for telly savalas/Kojak
So you adopt the evil green slug demon?
Times were hard!!
it had never even occured to me that this would be in question by anyone
Like I said, I can see why people think he is, but that doesn’t mean he is. Y’all seeing it like claiming Picolo or something, I see it like claiming George W Bush
Think he was supposed to Greek or something but I could be misremembering.
No, I remember that, too. Some greek influence in his design.
I can't recall where I heard that but it was a long time ago. But I'm pretty sure it was a behind the scenes thing when they were talking about the character.
The creators based him off a specific Greek-American actor. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telly_S...
As a white person, I’m gonna sit this one out and say I fully support Lupita’s reasoning.
PICCOLO IS GREEN DON'T YOU SEE THAT
