Using private contractors to drive down waiting lists isn’t the same as privatising
The @30% the private sector is siphoning off for CEOs and shareholders would be better invested in increasing capacity in the NHS. Who picks up the pieces when it goes wrong? The NHS of course, not the private operator who caused the damage.
Obviously it isn’t ideal, but there is a crisis that needs addressing now. Long term capacity building comes after. I assume you are pleased with the rate that waiting lists are coming down.
Yep, once of the quiet success of Labours first few months. Waiting lists down 6 months in a row, during the coldest part of the year, while significantly increasing diagnostic tests. A long way to go, but some encouraging early signs
And who highlighted and complained about the extra cost of the lack of NHS capacity a few years ago? Wes Streeting - adding that large, long-term investment would be needed to increase NHS capacity to replace inefficient private provision.
That's what is being done. It's in the budget. Doesn't anyone read the budget? 🤷♂️
There is an overlap for sure.
