Forgot to show you some of the work of Swedish painter Hilma af Klint, whose show I saw at MoMA earlier this month. (You can read more about the exhibition here: www.moma.org/calendar/exh...)

A pulsing green watercolor landscape with tree trunks visible near the top in the background. A simple watercolor of a red-to-yellow apple with two small blemishes near the bottom. A simple but elegant watercolor of a white-bodied caterpillar with yellow and black spots.

I was there week before last. Loved the work, thanks for reminding me I wanted to order the catalogue. Botanicals in a new (to me) context. Illuminating.

Smithsonian Magazine had a big article about her a few months ago. Really interesting stuff, especially her story about what brought her to make art. www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture...

Thank you! I hadn't seen this. Her spiritual interpretations of plants didn't really speak to me, so the abstract mappings related to them interested me less. But there was an odd sensibility to the representational work that I liked.
