What I struggle with is that it leads nowhere. No one is going to arrest Trump. No Republican is going to impeach him for something he did 20 years ago that he wasn't charged for. It's yet another cul-de-sac of outrage.

You would be correct if it were not for MAGAs going crazy over Epstein. It is getting blasted around enough for the general population of low information voters to take notice.
The issue with low info voters is that they are incapable of organizing into a straight line let alone an effective political movement. What they are useful for, I suppose, is pushing a public narrative. That narrative is (I hope) that Trump is disgusting.
Well, but this time the outrage is including his base. But yes, those of us who thought the J6 and classified docs would lead to justice are not likely to see this be what we think he deserves.
Your head is still stuck in legal/constitutional remedies. There aren’t any and never were. This is a public opinion war, in which legal outcomes matter but only in that they affect public opinion. The Founders understood this well (especially Jefferson).
Who cares if most people don't like him? Suppose he loses popular support tomorrow and drops to Bush level approval – what changes in the world? Do institutions feel more emboldened to stand against his decrees? Do protests ramp up? I don't see why they'd need to wait for ~20% of Americans.
Yes. If Trump’s core support cracks even a little, Republicans will have no reason to be scared of him. Losses in elections will serve to confirm that. I’m sorry to burst your bubble, but absolute legal protections or rights never existed nor did the Founders have such illusions.
