I really must read Emily’s book! Relatedly, what’s good to read on Russell and his (baleful?) influence?

You could go straight to the horse’s mouth and read his History of Western Philosophy. I did aged 19 and in a way it was very useful, as the course was so boneheadedly ahistorical that any kind of historical perspective was a help.
I’m sure there are other good books on his influence but I’m not the man to ask. @nigelwarburton.bsky.social may have ideas?
For his influence at a human level - good and bad - My Father Bertrand Russell by Katherine Tait (his daughter) is fascinating
Oh thank you! My parents were friends with his second wife Dora, but if there was any talk of him I don’t remember it
Katharine Tait’s book is very well-written and balanced
Thanks for the suggestion @nigelwarburton.bsky.social I will look that out myself as well. @mathewlyons.bsky.social We can compare notes after reading it. ;)
Well stated. :)
