Yes. We also have almost cost free medical treatments, free schools including university, decent infrastructure (which of course could be better...), a robust and fair voting system, etc. Trump calls it socialism. We just call it common decency.

The structures you describe allow you to live with dignity. It is a pipe dream for Americans. We are in a dark space right now. We will face severe challenges if we don’t overcome the right wing extremism.

Yes. Those structures are about the same in all Scandinavian countries: Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Iceland. And here, people are the happiest in the world. Yes, we pay higher taxes, but we also get a lot for what we pay. And we have courts that are free from political influence.

Add to this 480 days of paid maternal/paternal leave (last 90 days on a lower scheme), affordable childcare (kindergarten) up to school age, which much releases the burdens on young families. I encourage all new fathers to take paternal leave since that is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
