Saying goodbye to your excess stuff is easy; finding it a new home is the challenge. Here’s how to sell, donate, and give away that which no longer sparks joy.

Yeet it from your penthouse apartment in NYC and yell "for the people!" as you let it go?
📌
Let's start with the orange thing in the white house, how do we get rid of that
Thanks, the New Yorker. It's wonderful for you to be so in touch with the American people that you understand our primary problem is having way too much stuff and not knowing how to get rid of all of this stuff we have.
Interesting. This is such an old article yet it still gets attention. The best way to declutter is to never buy it in the first place. It’s also kinder to the planet.
This is the advice I would have given my younger self. I also would have said no when my parents brought a truckload of their stuff to drop off before leaving for Florida.
That’s tough. Our parents think they are being thoughtful giving us their items.
Their treasures should be our treasures ♥️
FYI, for the magazines more well-heeled readers, it’s patronizing to offer it to the maid.
How many of our belongings can truly “spark joy” ffs?
In my apartment building, there’s a shelf next to the mailboxes that functions as an informal exchange. I’ve picked up candles and even a watermelon there. It’s not abused; people put out a modest amount of items and it doesn’t get cluttered.
Did you know that the lady who invented kon mari stopped doing it? I have stuff I have received as gifts such as mugs and ornaments and when I see them I think of the people who gave them to me. Most are not in my life anymore and I don't feel *joy*, I feel connection. In the age of ai: this is real
If u need objects to think about someone, they’re not that important to u.
I think that is the point. I have forgotten many people I have once met or studied with since I don't have anyrhing from them or have them in my socials. My current blanket sheets are from my aunt and my coffee cup is from my first crush and it is nice to think about different people daily.
Yes, my friends from 20 years ago some of whom are not even my fb friends or my big sister who does not talk to my family are not a big part of my life, that is correct. But once they have been and have liked me enough to give me birthday presents. I don't need the objects to think about them, silly
Just throw it away

Don’t forget you could also ask family, friends, and neighbors, it can always be recycled,up cycle or reused,do not give a shiny coin to Chump’s economy , or the companies that are gouging us after covid, shamelessly posting record earnings,we live paychecks to paychecks! Survival Economics! #resist
Minimalist living is a privilege. Poor people have to hold on to things that are likely to be useful in the future, whether they "spark joy" or not. Read that again.
Practical things aren’t the problem. U just need 1, not 5. Everyone can say no to mugs and tchotchkes. It’s the time to declutter that might be the luxury. Trauma also causes hoarding which may be more common with poorer people.
More entitled blather. On what planet can poor people afford an excess of anything? Why do you think yard/garage/tag sales are common among the working class? BECAUSE THEY HOPE TO MAKE A FEW MEASLY DOLLARS OFF STUFF THEY DON'T NEED! Seriously, check your privilege.
Im having a yard sale this weekend.
Shoes?👠 haha
FYI - my bona fides include being very poor. Reliant on food banks, LIHEAP, government grants, Medicaid for the kids, WIC, the worst GI Bill between 1944 and 2015 (at least). Credit card debt to the sky. Student loans I didn't pay off for 17 years after college.
I know what it's like to hoard things to survive, and improvise what I needed to maintain an apartment and a car.
I choose a 20 yard dumpster. It’s cathartic to throw stuff away and you don’t have strange people offering you half of your ask, or worse having them in your yard. Throw it away-less shit for your designated heirs to fill your death dumpster before they get to sell your house for the big payday
Donate it to thrift stores, sell it for a few dollars, recycle, up cycle, reuse ♻️ do not give Chump’s economy one shiny penny, show the big companies that are gouging us,and post record earnings while we are surviving on pennies, we can fight back
Does it work with 79 year old rotten grifters and their syncophants?
Most of us would like to get rid of Trump!
