An obvious (potential) problem I see is that without a Fed debt ceiling, the Trump admin could still borrow to fully fund grants to 'taker' states and Fed programs without skipping a beat. If 'giver' states withhold surpluses to seek Fed policy changes, it might have no effect whatsoever.

The military will be fully mobilized at that point.

The state its self pays federal taxes

States governments do not pay federal taxes for the state itself. They collect payroll taxes from state employees, but withholding those would screw the employees, who would still owe the taxes.

This is a novel idea being discussed among blue state governors. They are emulating Texas. It could possibly work.

I'm not too legally knowledgeable but this is something I bring up often and think would be a decent idea to push. Imagine how much more prosperous the blue states could be without having to carry the red states. A step further, could be blue states entering into deals, but idk the law on that.

The only problem with this theory is that the bulk of taxes collected are income tax, so people in blue states would have to stop paying their federal taxes, the blue states would not be able to limit people from paying their federal taxes, as typically the employer taxes it out and sends it

to the fed.

That being said, there is nothing that says anyone has to have their taxes deducted from their paycheck, they can withhold all federal taxes and then pay the bill or not during the tax period.

Trump has already said he'll lock up Newsom and other politicians if they try it. My guess is he'll attempt to bring down the full force of his power on CA. Doesn't mean Newsom shouldn't do it anyway.
