SOOOO much love/respect to the trans community HOWEVER we are at war people. Vs forces that are INFINITELY more dangerous to trans Americans than Newsom, who is playing politics & trying to hedge on stuff that feels controversial bc America is broadly transphobic & he’s him

Having love and respect for a group of people means you don’t defend someone who is advocating against their dignity and rights. Also, Newsom adding fuel to the anti-trans fire only strengthens the right wing movement—we’re not going to beat them by hating the same people they do.

I agree. But we live in a world of deeply flawed choices. & if you dont see that the other team is unspeakably worse for the highly vulnerable people you want to protect, I don’t know. Also that we live in a broadly transphobic era & political speech reflects that, unfortunately.

I voted for Kamala even though she’s despicable on Gaza. I’d vote for Newsom if it was him vs Trump. But this isn’t Election Day. We don’t have to choose between Newsom and someone worse. He’s feeding a dangerous, hateful movement against trans people and there’s no reason to give him a pass.

It’s not about choosing Newsom. It’s about advocating for trans dignity, humanity & rights while allowing for the reality that the electorate is sadly to varying degrees transphobic & political animals like Newsom reflect that. It’s uniting against the common enemy as much as possible

You can’t advocate for trans dignity while also saying we need to let political animals strategically deploy vicious, dehumanizing transphobia. Newsom is overtly, explicitly advocating against the basic rights of trans adults. This is an easy, obvious thing to draw a line about.

again, this is your self regard over actual literal harm to people. Like those who wouldn’t vote Biden/Harris over Gaza (I get it! Fuck Biden! Fuck the genocidal Israelis!) the Trumpists are infinitely worse for the Palestinians. You’re not helping the community you say you’re trying to protect

I’m not helping the trans community by (checking my notes) objecting to Newsom parroting false, hateful, right wing talking points about them? I should sit down and shut up while the smart political animals make trans people safer by… opposing their basic rights—am I understanding you correctly?

"Our people just want you disgusting trannies gone and not to hurt people who actually matter. Surely you see how it's important to vote for that same outcome for yourself to save us rather than us be bothered to include your protection in this" is certainly a choice, champ.

The people who want trans people “gone” are the side in power & you are actively helping them win so you can have a pure & uncompromising self image The question people need to ask themselves is what side is better for trans people & which is worst & vote however is necessary to minimize harm

Also I plainly called it a *SHITTY* choice But the choice will make a big difference for trans Americans in the level of persecution & threat they are facing
