The more I listen to the early Verdi operas the more I like them. I am listening to "I Lombardi alla prima crociata": it is an excellent work, and you can already hear that unmistakable Verdian style. And "Ernani" has long been one of my favourite operas.

It's also worth hearing his French rewrite, Jérusalem, which I saw performed in Lìege some years ago.

I've heard some parts of Jérusalem, but not the complete opera, I think.

It was a staging by Stefano Mazzonis di Pralafera and when it went to co-producing Torino, was given in its original Lombardi version: bachtrack.com/review-verdi...

I have started on the same chronological journey! (Liked Oberto a whole lot, not so keen on Un Giorno di Regni) Do you have a recommended recording for I Lombardi alla prima crociata?

I don't know the opera well enough to have a favourite/recommended recording, the one I watched was this, which I remember liking: youtu.be/xHR9vPSIY_4?... I do however have a recommended recording/video of Jérusalem (the French remake of I Lombardi): youtu.be/o_ooxfBD1mk?...

I realised the link I posted for Jérusalem only has the audio recording, this one also has the video (it's the same performance): www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJQy...
