Still confused why she required the children’s counsel to file something when they had zero children in their custody and no firsthand knowledge of their whereabouts. I mean, no wonder they didn’t realize the court had required a status report from them as well.

Putting an obligation on plaintiffs to watchdog defendants seems weird. Sanctions (on top of pissing off the judge) are the usual means of ensuring parties don’t lie to the court.
It's not weird. It's "contact your clients and make sure this happened" they aren't the courts client.
Have you EVER seen a court tell counsel, “contact your clients and make sure *the opposing party* did ______”? I’m not in the field anymore, but I’ve never seen that. That’s way more than a joint status report, and pretty weird imo, but maybe that’s a thing now?

yeah i have no idea, sorry. seemed sane to me to not make the judge or court call 75 kids. the attorney reply sounds like they just woke up from a labor day hangover and didnt actually check anyway
lol I think the fact that you’ve had to clarify (twice now) gives credibility to the plaintiff’s counsel’s excuse. After all it was the government who had the children and were providing status reports.
I think this was a "we don't believe the government, so we want the plaintiffs to verify" order.
Oh 100% I just think it caught their counsel off guard because so many judges would have just accepted the governments status reports and assumed the plaintiffs would do their due diligence and not ORDER them to file a confirmatory status report. Makes me respect this judge all the more.
