I’m with you all the way on this one. Republicans are gutting Medicare and the minority party should have done something or something else but why didn’t they do it?

Because they don’t have the votes? You need 60 senators to override the filibuster, and 50 senators to eliminate the filibuster (which Sinema and Manchin objected to). The closest they got to a public option was in 2009, and they literally got crushed in the midterms because of it.

Reconciliation means expanding existing federal funding. A universal healthcare system would require a termination of Medicare and Medicaid as federal programs, which is not permitted under a reconciliation bill.
