They look like a weapon you'd use for a gimmicky but effective ranged build in DnD!
they are literally the D&D weapon referred to as a "dart"- used by the Romans in sieges.

Absolutely. And now that I'm picturing thousands of men all throwing them, I can understand how they were effective at scale. I'll have to think of those DnD darts with more respect from now on!
my great uncle had these (branded Jarts) back in the day and I definitely learned the validity of that weapon messing around with them
The main problem with Jarts was using them in close-quarter suburban yards with shortish fences. They’d occasionally sail over the top of one to hit someone that wasn’t playing the game
