I think Thiel has everything right where he wants it for Vance to take over. Now whether the repugs in congress will go along, who knows, but they haven't shown any backbone so far. And SCROTUS is helping.

The question isn't whether or not Vance would take over - he would, that's how it works - but what he's going to be taking over. The thing with a cult of personality is what happens when you get rid of the personality. People are going to see themselves as potentially in power.

The Trump brand is the only thing that was keeping everyone in line. Without that, you have an assortment of ambitious people who are out for themselves and others who need to find the right person to glom onto to keep the little power they have. Then you get a ton of infighting.

It's not something new, it's always in the background of an authoritarian regime - I think North Korea is the only one who really understands how to keep the cult moving, since they start positioning successors WELL in advance. There is going to be a lot of chaos the moment he dies.
