I'm from Michigan, Sleeping Bear Dunes are cool, but there's just nothing like gypsum sand in the middle of nowhere, and still in the middle of history, ancient and modern, like White Sands is. Manhattan Project test site, and also home of some of the oldest hominid footprints.
