The question I have is why. What is the end goal? What do they imagine life will be like in 5 or 10 years. Sans science, sans professions, education, jobs … what do they suppose that will actually look like?

We will look like we are not a threat or competition for our enemies. The idea is to diminish the US and demoralize and frighten the people into submission.
