1. Govt issues directive that is overly broad and includes almost any book with a sex scene in it. 2. School board follows the directive to a T. Many books identified as falling under the directive. 3. Premier says that board is being overly aggressive in following guideline that was overly broad.

Smith is good at performative politics but less so at governing.

And if the board didn't follow it to a T, there will be the same complaints that the board wasn't following government directives.

Smith was so condescending in her remarks, saying that maybe the govt needs to hold the board’s hand while they do their review, implying that the guidance was not the problem. I’ve read the guidance, and the board was absolutely correct in identifying the books that they did.

When you delegate fascist decisions β€” like which books to burn (because some books *must* be burned) β€” you get to claim enthusiastic collaboration instead of passive compliance: "It was *the teacher's* choice." Good on the school boards for not falling for it, for leaving Ms. Smith holding her bag.
