If you’re thinking of parking in South Shields I know a route that’ll be easier to get away. You’ll have to be prepared to walk for about 20 mins after the finish line though.

Be a long wait getting out from there, if you can even get there in the first place. As has been said better parking a little way out and walking.

Isn’t that below where they shut the coast road? It’s 45min walk from South Shields I thought you can just get out by turning south away from the finish?

Lizard lane is above the coast road, the top of that very steep short bank that leads you down onto the coast road. I think the other poster is recommending. Lizard lane area, Whitburn, boldon, a19. You can get out also via , shields, tyne dock way. Past the ferry landing, commercial road as well.

Ive used Lizard Lane for over 20 years when the runs been on with no problem. Friends have parked around our house over the years and used that route, obviously a bit busier when it’s finished but have managed to get away in good time. You’ll just have to run faster.😃

If you look on Google maps, anywhere between Lizard lane and Beacon Glade. Plenty of streets with parking 👍

Thanks both will give it a go. Got to be better than waiting 2hrs for the metro, even if the roads are chocka i’d rather be sitting in traffic than standing in a cold queue.

If you exit through Lizard Lane through to Whitburn you’ll find it a bit easier, then head towards Cleadon village and onto Sunderland A19. Hope you have a great time, spectator this year so a bit Jealous.
