Look how this disinformation relies on people not reading the linked story (I did because I wanted it to be real). It’s a semi-sophisticated campaign in that it understands “too good to check” is effective.

An altercation involving an adult male and a 15 year girl late at night is suspect. That’s why people are reacting. We are rightly suspicious.
I agree! And I think spreading an unsupported story undermines efforts to find and propagate the truth. Which is the OP’s intent, I suspect.
That's not the point. Payne's post suggested that the Daily Beast article said something that it definitively did not. He's a liar.
I’m not defending Payne. He provided bad sourcing. But we still don’t know what actually happened to this girl.
It's not "bad sourcing"; it's a bald-faced lie. Nothing in that article, the court records, or any other source supports his claim.
Well, the article suggests the judge does not believe Coristine. She released the teenagers for now.
Again, not the point. Payne claimed something that is, at best, unsourced and speculative, and more likely a rank fabrication designed to garner him attention. The fact that he blocks anyone pointing out that the article doesn't support him tells you all you need to know.
I had read the article previously, and knew it was good, but had assumed when seeing the QT, that it had been updated with new info. And it sounded SO RIGHT! Then I reread it, and realized that this guy was not being straight with us.
