Signal and IRC

Signal's centralization is problematic. They are unfriendly to 3'rd party applications by changing their protocol without announcement, and refuse to build 1'st class linux app. The phone number tie is also a privacy problem. It's good otherwise, but it's hard to recommend without reservation.

I'm not disagreeing with the recommendation either, I tell people to use it too... I just really don't like that it's the best option we have.
