That's your quotation marks around something you wrote. Not normally the way truth is communicated.
But it hasn't been increased, they increased employers NI. It's still selected by you and specifically saying that they lied, which is untrue.
I didn’t say they lied, I said (correctly) that they’ve already broken the pledge, because they promised not to raise national insurance and then did raise it. to be clear, my view is that the pledge was a mistake and they should break it again!
anyway I’m not getting into an argument about it at half eleven at night with someone who says raising employer NI doesn’t breach “we will not raise national insurance”
but yeah let’s make sure we mess around with as many piddly little tax rises as we can think of instead of just raising income tax or VAT
The "Jeremy Hunt brought in tax cuts we couldn't afford, we're sorry but NI has to go up to pay for the NHS" line was there all along and they absolutely flubbed it
Or income tax.
I default to NI because I think the lift here was so much easier, and (from memory) people are less hostile to it because it's complex and they think it's connected to the NHS
Yeah polling has always been better for raising NI because the public has the vague (wrong) idea it's hypothecated for the things they like.
