The other thing about cities is they tend to have far more progressive, left-leaning populations than our countryside. Of course Khan’s repeated electoral success in London absolutely infuriates the hard right….as did Ken’s in the 80s.

It’s our annual “cultural” weekend in London this week. I’ve torn all our cloths and plan on rolling in the gutter so we “don’t look rich”. What a load of bollox. Me and the wife have drank in most of the pubs, north and south of the Thames and not seen any bother. Simple risk awareness.

I watched “Shady” by Adam Curtis last week. There was a knife crime epidemic in the early nineties, much worse than today. To win the working classes, get them angry. ✅ To win the middle classes, get them scared……..ongoing.

I've happily walked through supposedly problematic areas and I have never felt threatened or uncomfortable. Sure, there are parts of London where you need to keep your wits about you but it's nothing like the picture painted by certain individuals.

I get it, but who exactly is scared. I live and work in central London. Tourist sites are busy with happy holiday makers. Public transport? Not a problem. I don't carry my phone in my back pocket... that's because I am sensible, not SCARED!

Its nothing new, when i was growing up my parents in the 80s had this terror they would be attacked if they dared step outside the front door at night, in Birmingham. Its sad to be so broken by fear but if you just consume a certain "type" of media thats the only message you get.
