“It's not any individual proposal, but this sense he's completely upsetting the traditional apple cart.” Zohran Mamdani has Republicans – and Democrats - running scared. Is this hugely popular socialist the future for left wing politics in the US?

No. The US is have their Corbyn moment. By the time he’s running for a more senior position like Governor or President, not only will the opposition have started smearing him, but also his own party and most of the media. They will crush him

And just like UK voters, while they will love the idea of a government that looks after people before profit, when it gets to the ballot box, they’ll vote for the government that cuts taxes

He can’t run for president. The media and party are already at him all over the place. Corbyn was a bit shit in comparison (i like many of his domestic policies but he’s.. lacking?) Young, positive, optimistic energy with innovative ideas to make things better has to be our way out of this shit

Corbyn had the popularity to win an election (he had brought Labour Party membership to record levels and was greeted as a hero at Glastonbury) A concerted smear campaign by not only Tories, but also Starmerites and all media put him in the bin

My point is that Mamdani is facing that EXACT same thing right now but it isn’t touching his poll numbers. Because he’s better than Corbyn was (It’s ok to admit that btw, we can all hope for even better movements going forward!)
