“If the tech keeps getting better this quickly, there’s the potential for a large-scale employment impact.” Jack Clark, co-founder of AI company Anthropic, says the speed of AI’s development is unprecedented and “hard to believe” for many. @lewisgoodall.com

Except, the tech isn't getting better. It's getting better at making money for the companies, but it enshittifies everything it touches.

I use Claude at work while coding, so no luddite. But so many questions. Anthropic guy's either hopelessly naive or wilfully evasive. Anthropic taking Saudi funding now. Look who's in control, private companies, OpenAI, X, Meta, Palantir, Anduril. Zero oversight. And burning up the planet.

Seems like they want to lick all the biscuits in the packet marked "careers" to secure funding. Don't train as a pilot, doctor, lawyer, engineer, accountant, etc. because a black box will make you redundant. We're not quite sure who will then be able to monitor or improve the output of the box. 🤷‍♂️

Guaranteed income subsidized by AI companies via taxation if it comes to this, but I don't think it will. AI is only reproduces what is put into it, without innovation. If it comes true, we should all benefit, thanks to government subsidies funding their research and energy consumption.

You need to listen to someone who isn’t quite so profoundly credulous about AGI maybe have a listen to @edzitron.com AGI is like nuclear fusion it will probably still be a declawed in 50 years.

This in the week that one publication stated that 95% of firms spending money on AI solutions have had 'zero' return on them. Must be a coincidence.

I guess the point has been reached where AI is self sustaining. The rapid increase in AI capability must now be down to the monster developing its own intelligence. Is it now at the point where it no longer needs it's servants?

Hmmm, someone who has staked his life on AI claims AI will be transformative 🤔, no conflict of interest there. What will be "hard to believe for many" is how overhyped all this bollocks about AI being a game-changer is when customers have to pay the true costs and the bubble inevitably bursts.

The marketing around AI is certainly growing exponentially, however the reality is heavy on the A and light on the I. However, irrespective of my views on its intrinsic crapness; it will succeed in saving rich modern day mill owners the bother of dealing with lots of pesky human employees.

We need to have more oversight and control? That's worked well with antisocial media and the internet so far hasn't it? Corporate greed, billionaire control, unfettered capitalism, job losses, lack of worker rights and power? Absolutely nothing to worry about here, move along...🤔
