Wouldn't trust him at all personally. The former president of global affairs for Meta, failed at pushing a dystopian metasphere (thank god) & failed at the Meta rebrand, which was principally because FB let the coordination & amplification of hate leading to the genocide of the Rohingya in Myanmar.
Stop enabling Clegg. He betrayed people's trust as Deputy PM and then went to work for Meta. We haven't forgotten. Let him take his millions and leave the public stage. There's no way back for him even though the Observer and Guardian are platforming him.
His futures rely on saying this?
There's gaslighting us all and then there's gaslighting yourself. What a deluded fool he is.
Not sure @maitlis.bsky.social will be on his Christmas card list after that interview - which was a masterclass from her in keeping calm in the face of incredible defensiveness and aggression
And so much mansplaining.
Really interesting interview. I initially thought Emily was being pretty unfair but it got Clegg to reveal his own misunderstanding (or disingenuousness) about the influence of social media on people. Content is information and info influences people, it doesn’t need to body snatch someone
Not entirely sure why anyone would believe a word this gentleman says. He has form not integrity.
To quote the immortal Mandy* "Well, he would say that, wouldn't he?" * No, not Peter...
Exactly
Oh gosh, who to believe? A huge pile of properly researched evidence, or a bloke who was paid $millions to say it wasn't true?
It wasn't the complicated creatures that voted for Trump.
If what we see on socials has no effect on our voting intentions then why are politicians paying to create content and spending millions on Ad spend in the run up to elections. Is Clegg saying advertising doesn’t work?
We stopped listening to Clegg a long time ago.
Never mind facebook and Trump. Has he explained about why got into bed with David Cameron thus changing the history of this nation!
He’s never going to reveal the truth. He’d have signed a nda or wants a tech job.
There's very little evidence Clegg is telling the truth. Facebook is totally awash with false news now in this country, and I'm constantly having to refute some utter bullshit quoted back at me. It's incessant and it does affect voting.
And we all believe what Clegg says…
Just get fucked Clegg
Tory enabler Clegg. Completely untrustworthy.
Clegs are parasites that give a painful bite and cause severe irritation. Just saying...
Oh yes Nick Clegg who promised to drop university fees but as soon as he had a chance of power backed down, I know who I believe.
Why spend all them billions ? Liberals are the lowest of the low - no matter how many daft stunts and photoshoots they pull
And austerity didn't make people poorer-Well not Mr Clegg and his friends anyway.
Well he would say that, wouldn’t he.
Lol the man has bullshit flowing from every orifice
Oh, for flip's sake. Of course Facebook helped elect Trump. Like it helped elect Boris. We're not more complicated creatures. We're easily manipulated to the point that it's farcical. Jon Sopel's book (who he?) 'If Only They Didn't Speak English' covers it quite well.
I have more faith in Sarah Wynn-Williams than Nick Clegg, especially on this issue.
Gimme an S Gimme an H Gimme an I Gimme an L Gimme an L Put em together, What have you got ? CLEGG.
No one believes the man who promised not to vote to increase tuition fees but then did.
Oh fuck off. Is he on a retainer or did he sign an NDA/Settlement Agreement?
I felt the argument was disingenuous. Facebook ofc isn’t the instigator of the Trump mindset, but it was very much the magnifier of all the crazy ideas behind it. When all that rubbish is amplified and spread then some people will assume they are valid.
What a prickly, defensive little man.
