I know little of talkies and this Goggins fellow but ad executives greatly overestimate his powers of persuasion because I have seen him in no less than three commercials in rapid succession and my wallet remains closed. Glad he’s making money, though.

I liked him before he was cool but the godaddy one and the repetitive late night bits about his wounded feelings re: his hairline (while relatable) have soured me on him to the point I’m even less likely to be influenced to buy than with an average replacement celebrity

I've noticed that! He's a great actor and made a fantastic 'villain' in Shanghai Noon (I know that's going back a ways, but I will never not think of him saying "we've always taken you for a dumb shit" when I see him) - but it takes more than a good actor to pry my fingers from my money.

Just to be clear, I wasn’t asking for further information, just observing that ad execs tend to jump on bandwagons that don’t necessarily yield sales

I've always found celebrity endorsements to be weird. At this point we all know they're doing it for the paycheck. Do people really believe they can trust an actor, a person whose entire career is based on pretending to be someone else? A liar, in other words, a base cad, a flim-flam artist?

You *can* view it as just an acting job. These days celebrities just read lines describing the product. Actual endorsements are rare (sadly, the only examples I can think of are elderly actors with real ailments).

oh man. it’s worse than that. they use actors from old people’s favorite shows and quarterbacks from their favorite eras to sell them deceptive services

I don't think there is a silent movie one to one, but he's kind of a Leo Willis-Hoot Gibson type?

I often find celebrities in ads are somewhat counterproductive. A few years ago there was an ad for some financial product that of this ilk. I cannot for the life of me remember the product, but I did worry that Dame Judy Dench was in trouble with the Inland Revenue.

dude's been acting a long time and has just recently gotten widely noticed for his talent. Glad he's able to cash in, but hate that Wal-Mart is the beneficiary.

He was very good in "Justified". Haven't yet seen him on White Lotus Also not buying whatever he's peddling. Just enjoy watching him.

I dunno what he's advertising but after the performance he gave in Fallout, he has earned himself a generous payday and I'm happy for him.
