I had a Tumblr-circa-2010 fit thrown in my replies yesterday because I didn't accept a reverse-engineered definition of a slang term that was cause for handwringing on that platform all those years ago. Again, it is not my responsibility to conform to Tipper Gore's reality.
It's a case of taking serious matters (there ARE slurs lurking in everyday language, there ARE people who don't care about current events, parents SHOULD help their children deal with grownup issues) and twisting them into something unrecognizable so they can be used as a cudgel.
Tipper Gore took a Twisted Sister song about surgery, reverse engineered it to be about misogynistic nonconsensual S&M, didn't bother to reach out to the band, flew off her hobby horse and ran to ban that filth... Dee Snider responded that she had a dirty mind. Bluesky Tippers every goddamn day.

He's here, you know! Dee Snider, that is, and I remember that kerfluffle, too bloody well I do. I particularly liked his rejoinder during his Congressional testimony that he himself was a Christian and didn't appreciate Gore's imputations about his morality.
And he was 100% correct in everything. And Gore tried to do the "That is my WIFE" thing and Snider responded by saying he addressed Tipper Gore by her full name, never bringing up her marriage. Al was the one infantilizing his wife's campaign (which, let's face it, it was infantile)
Tipper Gore is pretty much why I voted for Nader in 2000. I was 22, a low information voter, and a music lover whose biggest mental association with the Gore name was the PRMC. Plus, I lived in Texas so I already knew Bush sucked but had the state locked up
I was never thrilled by either Gore myself. Or by Clinton, come to think on it, who honestly wouldn't have survived in the "Me Too" era.
I wonder what that term was, but more to the point, I was on Tumblr myself and saw a LOT of those scolds (as well as people going positively berserk over their fandoms). Me? I contented myself with posting pictures of my favorite classic film actresses.
It was butthurt. Tumblr mods even banned the term at one point claiming it was about anal rape. Merriam Webster investigated, said it was no such thing and the origins are murky but it's likely about a child being swatted on the backside.
This is why I noped out of Tumblr in the 2010s. I cringed when it had an upsurge in the wake of Musk's takeover but I think they were too, well, Tumblr for the newbies and it has sunk back into obscurity but I recognize the usual archetypes from there.
IIRC that's where the term "woke", which really REALLY ought to be retired & should have been as soon as the far right glommed onto it, first gained currency.
Oh right, now I remember! I don't remember if I replied to that, but if I did I hope you'll pardon my forgetfulness; the volume of what I react to here is such every day that I often misremember what I said or didn't say. I personally have always thought of "butthurt" as being more in the sense...

Yes, I always took it to be a play on "pain in the butt" and their immediate assumption that any phrase involving butts immediately refers to anal intercourse is a them thing. English language loves its backsides!
I've never indulged in the practice myself - not finding that orifice to be erotic, and let's just leave it at that, shall we? - but I'm given to understand that, if done properly and with due care, it's *not* painful, so I must wonder what those people who associate it with pain get up to.
(Though not too much, as I find the whole notion distinctly unprepossessing.)
