That so many Americans who voted for Trump actually WANT a dictator, an authoritarian, a strongman to rule over them & rule over this country has never surprised me. Bcuz for yrs, his voters have told me they wanted this. Yes, it’s hugely disappointing, but not at all surprising.

I realized recently that the US has always been a bit of a Frankenstein monster. The North and South really had nothing in common except for wanting out of the British Empire. It was always a mistake to try to keep them together after the revolution, and our politics have suffered ever since.

For decades people have been telling me the 2A was supposed to deal with dictators. If so maybe they should have considered the possibility that the people with twice as many guns would support that dictator. Maybe empowering a dictator like him is why they wanted all those guns in the first place?

My assertion: The wish for a dictator or authoritarian ruler is tied directly to the education of the populace. No highly educated society has ever turned to authoritarianism as a solution. MAGA's belief in dictatorships is a direct result of the decades-long attack by GOP on public education.
That and religion. Look at countries with high religious populations and you’ll often see a tendency towards authoritarianism
I'm not sure which is the chicken and the egg. Religion tends to influence or suppress education to manipulate populations. Plus, how do we explain China's (primarily atheist) fascination with authoritarians?
