Thank you for your honesty. I think we are more "democracy vs fascism" than "democrat vs republican" now. I think your move reflects this.
🌹
You know, if people became Democrats to benefit their career, that might not be a bad thing. We should want to be the party where people can affiliate with to look sane. But, of course, for many it isn’t. I’m glad you put country over party and career. As a more liberal Democrat, I appreciate it.
You probably need to keep an eye on him as well.
Yeah what you did was not the most "benefit my career move" so I think it's safe to say that wasn't it.
"I do what I think is right .. whether it benefits me or not." As a principle, this is what is so missing today in an era of hyper-partisan tribal politics. It used to be a common idea. Believe or not, even many conservatives once abided by this principle.
Good on you. The Constitution and our beloved country is in all hands on deck mode and every patriot needs to close ranks and fight. We the generation that what people? Let it slip through our hands, too busy to be bothered, failed our ancestors! 249 years was a good run but is this it? I say NO!
Here's what I don't get - and no disrespect intended - but while I appreciate the respect for democracy the Never-Trump Republicans who have defected from the party and either become independents or Democrats, what I don't get is this: They now sound reasonable; in fact in most cases I don't hear
any of them advocating for things I oppose, which was NOT the case before they left the GOP. Most of the Never Trumpers were full on the bandwagon spreading falsehoods about Democrats and Democrat positions before they defected in the wake of Trump, i.e. they were doing the same type of gaslighting
the Trumpers do now. None of them batted an eye when Karl Rove was crowing about a "permanent Republican majority" (a one-party state) 20 years ago, which was a screaming alarm to ME. And they played along with all the lies about Obamacare/ACA, etc etc. So my question would be - and again, no
disrespect intended, and I do not want to bash anyone who has repented for prior mistakes in judgement, which we have all made in our lives - when you look back, does any of this strike you as a moment when you perhaps should have sensed the danger in the direction your party was going? Or have you
done that kind of analysis at all, or was it just "Donald Trump is crazy and I can't go along with this?" I guess what I'm asking is this: Is Trump the only reason you're no longer a Republican, or was he the final straw? Is there any sense of "gosh I wish I had noticed this or that at the time,
because if I had, I would not have still been in the party and supporting it as it became more and more radicalized to the point that a Trump could take it over"? I'm being sincere here, and reiterate I'm not asking because I want anyone to feel bad about past errors of judgement, but I am really
curious, because there is a bevy of former Republicans who now sound like people of genuine good will and who never sounded like that before they left the party.
I became a democrat in 2016
Were you a Tea Party up-and-comer? 🤔
No. An independent
You’re defending the constitution, this is why I follow you and why I believe in you. I would vote for you for any office if given the chance.
It’s amazing how many dems are resistant to building a coalition after seeing how Trump rode a coalition of idiots/racists/assholes to the damn White House
This is the best thing about our left/right coalition: we can respelled eachother in check and ultimately find solutions that work for all of us
party affiliation is overrated.
The self absorption is pervasive.
Cool story lol
👍
I think there's decency and common sense buried deep down in a lot of Republicans but they're scared to come out and say so. Too many cowards.
Unf*ing believable. So sorry.
I know Republicans who can no longer vote for Republicans, and did vote for both Hillary and Kamala. Big difference between a Tea Party Republican becoming a Democrat and a MAGA Republican stuck on stupid.
As a former Republican myself and now a Democrat, thank you. We need fighters like you.
I don’t say thank you enough for having the cajones to keep talking to your old party. We are lucky to have you on our side.
Joe keep being an advocate for no-nonsense tactics and messaging. The party needs your viewpoint, even if they won’t admit it.
Lifelong Democrat here — welcome, Joe. I appreciate your leadership in the fight against fascism. We’ll sort out our differences later after we’ve worked together to restore democracy.
I became a Democrat the day after Jan 6th. I get it. 💞💜
I used to vote Republican, but changed my ways back in 2012. There is always time to change, and be a better person. Glad to see you made that change 👍
Tell us who?!?!
Sorry you have to face this constant skepticism, Joe. Anyone who understands anything about media knows the big money is on the right wing. You could’ve easily tapped into that…hell, you were right there! Instead, you put country over career.
The Dems like this one have little clue as to why they lost so badly in 2024.
I have my eye on you too but totally appreciate what you bring to the conversation now. NEVER thought I'd say that about you but there you have it. Cannot have blinders on in our fight against fascism.....
He's doing the "checks" on the "checks and balances" thing on you
That "long time Democrat" is a person after my own heart. Except he should have vowed to keep a "wary" eye on you. You've already slipped back into TP ideology by blaming "both sides" & have recently advocated taking over the Dem party. Glad to see I'm not alone in my (healthy) skepticism.
Joe, you should have an X-ray done of you back and send the image to all Republicans in the House and the Senate to show them the image of a spine.
Change is hard & some people don’t like when you transform into your authentic self. Congratulations on continuing your fight against the current state of affairs.
I believe in your sincerity, Joe! Dem party is big tent & we are in the fight of our lives to save democracy! The more allies in this fight- the better
You give me hope my best friend will eventually see the light. I lost her to Trump/QUanon. We were always right and left, but we weren’t really that far far apart.
I think you had just lost your way . You were lost and now you found your way home. My mother told me that I was born Irish, Cath. and a Dem and you will die Irish, Cath and Dem. Mom ignored that Dad is French.I am no longer a practicing Cath. I'm a Democrat. Schumer and Jeffries need to go.
Because you don't have to. You'll have plenty of money to never work again for the rest of your life. And you'll always have Talking Head Jobs. Many of us aren't that lucky. We're screwed by the nonsense that YOU helped put into motion 15 years ago. Thanks for that. Always appreciate it.
Benefit a career? No Dem is making a career right now. Do the right things and go from there: Newsome, Frost, AoC, etc
Joe, you wandered in the wilderness and said so, for a long time. As much as I dislike rethuglicans, what they stand for and what they sit for, I have mad respect for you and what you do. You are a great listener, empathizer and general example of a good human. I’m glad you’re one of us.
Don't worry, a lot of us have been following you for years and have seen your consistent pro-democracy position. Thank you for your hard work.
That’s admirable.
Joe I know you’ll the right thing
Your transition is interesting as both framework (how to move others from a hypocritical cult) and indication of major polarizing mindset change. There’s incongruence in the Tea Party and liberal/democracy advocacy. AFP helped get us here. socialcontractwithjoewalsh.substack.com/p/from-the-t...
I was on Twitter when you were still backing Trump, in fact I actually posted a snarky reply to one of your tweets back then. You have definitely taken a blowtorch to your career, they (current GOP MAGA) would never welcome you back into their fold.. There’s no way you’re doing this for the money.
You gotta be aware tho that there have been several moles entering the Democrat party only for them to come out as Republicans or "Independents" (my ass) at the worst possible moment. I am sure we can think of several off the top since 2016.
I thought you were the biggest asshole in the world, but watching and paying attention to your views over the last 8 years , you’re the real deal and it just goes to show that we evolve through discussions and communication.
Well said.
I think the same of George Conway. The real deal.
Weeell. Ask him about Israel and you’ll see the complete picture. Here’s a sample of the intolerant asshole cosplaying as reasonable he continues to be—he just changed victims of his intolerance. Check out this video from this search, joe walsh mehdi hasan share.google/pfpsc87D7Wik...

Unfortunately, evolution isn’t happening for most of the GOP.
