American perception of nudity is so weird. I can only speak as a man, and a gay one at that, but I think people are especially weird abt male nudity? Like women in film have never been given the courtesy of prosthetics in a nude scene, while male nudity can single handedly tank a movies rating

Midnight Train To Georgia On My Mind @spin4srv.bsky.social

In the last 20-30 years fortunes have been teaching police that anyone and especially someone around the corner may be a fatal threat to their life and health. The same has happened with nudity. Right wing nuts have spread the word that nudity is not only sexual, but _aggressively_ sexual.

And speaking of beaches, it took me 14 years of being an out gay man before I felt comfortable wearing swim briefs (they're the best btw, just comfort level and aesthetically) because they somehow are perceived as being provocative. But women wear bikinis! Obviously this is also a change...

Because we know the history is the policing of women's swimsuits and handing out tickets or a night in the clink if they were not modest enough. Meanwhile men back then basically wore nothing lol.

It is the Winter of Our Discontent… @21cpedagogy.bsky.social

Our Puritanism just permeates the culture. It’s soooo weird.
