Even youtubers that review stuff will disclose if they received products for free or their videos were sponsored. It's about credibility, integrity, trust, even at the level of buying a pair of headphones or whatever. Sure the reviewer may organically like the headphones, but then why the secrecy?

From my understanding the money wasn't for making content with approved talking points, it was a mentoring program to get more left leaning creators off the ground and making content.

Then just come out and say that. That's the crux of the entire thing. Why would you be asked to keep that a secret?

It's not secret, Chorus has a website. Creators have it in their linktrees, and that's just not how disclosure works. J. Jonah Jameson wants pictures of Spider-Man, many freelancers taking pictures of Spider-Man are going to go get paid by the guy who wants more pictures of Spider-Man.

I don't think you're arguing in bad faith but you don't seem to have a grasp on the premise absolutely nobody on the planet has claimed chorus is a secret - I remember Brian announcing it on youtube a year or so ago I think we all just broadly disagree on the ethics in play here, and that's fine

Are you really... REALLY going to do "It's about ethics in TikTok videos"? Really? jfc

501c()(3)s, 501(c)(4)s, and PACs all have different rules about disclosing doners and where the money can be spent. Chorus is a 501(c)(4) which means its funds can't be used to endorse candidates and campaigns... so tell me, if they're following federal law where they did anything wrong/unethical.

Did you read the updated article?

Update: 8/28/2025, 7:00 PM EDT: Following the publication of this article, Graham Wilson of the Elias Law Group, whose participation in a Zoom call was reported upon, and who did not respond to WIRED's pre-publication email requesting comment, reached out to WIRED on several points. These include whether members of the cohort can publicly talk about working with Chorus, and Chorus's connection to Good Influence, both of which WIRED has clarified. We have also included comment from Wilson regarding Chorus placing

I read it yesterday so I assume it was already updated if that happened on the 28th. I didn't notice whether it said it was updated.

I'll go back and give it a look, regardless, I don't see the issue. Or at least, I'm confused how the terminally online leftists can on one hand demand we throw out the norms and fight to get down on their level, but don't want our dark money to use the right's playbook. It's how things work rn.

I'm not sure the accuracy of this but I've seen some say the fund that's supplying Chorus with money is also funding many other progressive projects and Taylor also has received money from this fund.

By pushing anti-Leftist propaganda to conflate them with Nazis? They're trying to make more "Left leaning creators" by pushing anti-Leftist memes? That's seriously your position?

Chorus example of how to do signaling aping Maoist standard English A list of 'features' put forward by Chorus, the dark money group funding pro-Democrat influencers, in reference to an edited Steak and Shake logo they were attempting to spread as a meme. The 'features' of the meme are as follows- - Maoist standard English memetic language - Nazi and Neo-Nazi aligned symbols (swastika, sig-runez, tiwaz, and HH) - White supremacist aligned symbols (KKK and HH) - Foreign capital aligned symbol (Euro Sign) - Russian influence aligned symbols (Cyrillic

They weren’t paid to post specific content but it was more like a stipend and new - it literally just started. So again. We are agreeing they should be more transparent but while the article discusses real harm done by right wing groups there has been no harm done here?

And again, the harm is in the lack of disclosure and all the ripple effects and unspoken implications of that. It also fucks over other creators who aren't taking money but are suddenly opened up to people alleging that they are, with - *contractually* - no way to ward those allegations off

So no harm but some more liberal creators are being helped to produce more content and learning more skills. Gotcha!
