Any guard with moral conflicts of the deployment is a coward if they don't disobey. Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, Personal Courage. If they can't live those values, they are unfit for the National Guard. For the ones on board with the plan, they need to be expunged.

Most did their active duty stint and joined the guard to be helpful and for a few benefits at the end of 20 years. When I was a reservist I saw a lot of diversity and good people. I’d say the macho men were in the minority. I believe many are questioning this and trying to figure out what to do.

Yeah, I came back to finish my thought regarding the Katrina deployment. We were there to provide security as they were lifting evacuation orders. Mostly at hospitals, but also at WALMARTS, which i found abhorrent, but whatever. We were all armed and full battle rattle, every time we went out 1/2
2/2 Prior to deploying, we had BAYONETS ON OUR CHECKLIST!! I was the first sergeant and questioned "WHY!!" It came off our checklist, but I kept questioning who the fuck were we serving?? Some people lost everything and I was going to bayonet them if they looted baby diapers?? It was insane.

I was newlywed in last year of engineering college. I was called for draft physical while 100s of our troops were dying in VN. I was the only one in my engineering classes with a beard, wearing flipflops. I opposed the harassing, spitting on troops, calling cops pigs. My rage was at politicians.

I am old enough to remember there was a draft. I started college in 1969. The NG deployed to my campus 3 years in a row. We all survived. I also remember a campus where faculty was fearless in teaching whatever they believed.
I am a faculty member. I can tell you that fewer are fearless now, because the systemic ramifications of outspokenness are much greater than in 1969.
