I think all blue states should start working on a separate program! We can't trust anything that comes out of this administration!

I'm blue, always have been, always will be. I live in a red state. What do the blue dots in red states do? I masked, and got vaccinated as soon as it was available. Boosted at every new vaccine release. I truly believe, w/o my last booster, I would have died without it. It was bad.

That's not something the states control. The IRS is in charge of taking taxes from individuals, not states, and they will definitely go after individuals who don't pay their taxes. Unless, of course, you're a multi-millionaire donor to the Republican Party.

Am I being naive or couldn't the states "hold" some of the tax money back & put it in a "disaster fund"? - He's already said that he'll hold out on helping blue states & we know FEMA isn't going to answer. If they can wage attach for child support I don't see any reason they can't.

The states don't send tax money to the federal government, individuals and businesses do. States can't "hold" some of that back because it doesn't pass through their control to begin with.

Sadly, IMHO, by our purchase choices (fossil fuels, online imported tech consumer purchases, luxury travel, et al.) our money goes straight there via a slight detour anyway.

Funny how that article does not explain how blue states are supposed to withhold individual's income taxes from the federal government. Blue states themselves don't pay taxes to the federal government, their resident population and businesses do, and they will get in trouble with the IRS.

People who live in a blue state that takes this action as a state would have some protection if they don’t send money to IRS. Those of us tiny blue dots in red states - like me - unfortunately would not.

Which is why my original comment in this thread - in reply to another user said we should stop sending tax money to the Federal government - was that I don’t want to spend my retirement years in Federal prison.
