I think the argument is that in our misogynistic society, we have a better chance of winning by running a man.
Im not taking advice from a man that says “Not wise. Learn. Grow.” simply for voting for women like it was some kind of sin. People like him are the reason why women and minorities always have a worse shot. Creating the argument that a White man would fair better IS negative political influence.
I don't agree that it's unwise. It's more of a matter of strategy. Every year is different and trying to understand what voters want in any given year is a different consideration than whether a woman or person of color is more qualified or should be there.
Some years we need an old experienced person, others a younger person. With Kerry or has to be a person with military background. With Obama it needed to be someone who opposed the Iraq war. It's always different.
Mexico (a very Christian and patriarchal country) elected a Jewish woman president. India elected a woman back in the 1980s. Why? Claudia Sheinbaum and Indira Gandhi stood for something. Hillary and Harris didn't.
