Trump brought it up. Narcissists brag about things they have done, and talk about transgressive thoughts that people with actual morals and ethics would be too embarrassed to admit. Because they are narcissists, they think that everything they do, say, and think, is automatically wonderful.

they also think everyone else is just like them, then get appalled when they find out everyone is not.

I have never noticed a single narcissist ever figuring out that everyone else is not a narcissist. I don't think they are capable of figuring out that other people are not just scenic backdrops or furniture meant for the narcissist's personal use.
