Octoberfest is always supposed to start mid September and end the first Sunday in October, that's when it takes place in Munich, where it was created.

I think I knew that once, but the one I've been going to for the last 20 years was always attended on the first weekend in October. While it was a weeks-long event, the annual family reunion (which was at the same venue every year) landed on that weekend.

Which makes sense since the last weekend of Oktoberfest is the biggest "party", any place down here that celebrates it does the same.
