Think about how many times the average person has been promised something is safe by scientists working for a corporation only to find out later those very same scientists knew all along it wasn't safe at all. This has severely eroded public trust. 2/4
In addition, it's well known that students are penalized for raising any questions about research done by mentors or big names in science, further eroding trust. Then, there are the articles that get past the peer review process that shouldn't. 3/4
I may only have an MS, but even I know that an article that draws its conclusions based on correlation and not causation shouldn't get published, but they do. I think maybe it's time to take a critical look at how science shares information, maybe? 4/4
Definitely agreed. Academia, at least in the West, serves the West’s capitalist interests at all costs. As an example, the options of research that can get done and things that can get published is significantly narrowed by capital interests. We are kept in a box, academically. Which imo contributes

Thank you. I had some major struggles getting my MS. Between being told what I should focus on because disabled people should want to be "fixed" rather than have tools to help to having a committee member insisting I cite her when she was wrong . . . it was aweful.
I’m sure! I only made it through a BS before I hit burnout really hard, though I planned on getting a masters when I first started college. I’m auDHD as well, shit sucks. It seems we are something of an aberration to every aspect of capitalist society, even in supposedly progressive spaces
You know, of the three fields I've studied in, the historians were probably the most understanding and easiest for me to get along with . . . You'd think psychology and theatre would be welcoming and understanding, but they're really not. In theatre, you have to be the right kind of "weird."
I have four degrees in three different fields. Bachelor degrees are really easy for me, though everything got harder after I no longer had eidetic memory. I lost that as I got sick so I had to learn how to study when I went back to school in my late 30s for my MS.
I have three bachelor degrees because of getting sick. I had to register in school to keep insurance back in 2004 after my first degree, and I'd lost my placement in my grad program. So, second bachelor degree.
B.A. in theatre, B.S. in history, and catering health with no clue what to do. Figured I couldn't act anymore, so I gave up on theatre, did various trainings while my ex was in school, and was told I had to pick a "practical field." Tried ABA (long story).
Went back to theatre after 20 years for tech, which meant more classes and a BFA. But now I'm really burnt out. I also didn't know that I was Autistic. Late diagnosis.
