Happy Labor Day!! Below is one of my favorite political cartoons from the early labor movement. It's from the Pullman Car strike of 1984 and features a representation of the Pullman Palace Car Company as a wealthy man pressing a worker between two grinding stones labeled "low wages" and "high rent."

The Pullman Palace Car Company was a company town in Chicago, so they owned the housing and controlled the rent. They kept the employees in wage slavery. While our homes are no longer owned by our employers, many face the same conditions today that those of the Pullman Palace Car Company faced.
