Worryingly for Ukraine, Donald Trump now seems to be veering back to praising Putin and criticising Zelenskyy. By agreeing to meet on US soil on Friday, Putin has pleased Trump — who doesn’t seem to realise what a concession he’s making to Russia by meeting Putin face to face.

Also, Putin knows the history of Alaska, so it’s also a symbolic win for him. Trump, on the other hand, doesn’t know what day of the week it is.
His main interest in Putin is a deal to increase his own personal wealth. He doesn't need it, but it's what makes him tick.
