It's non sensical for state or local elections. Sure, they could boycott a few thousands in purchases, but they don't control any armies and have limited diplomatic ability.

I think it has more to do with rejecting the corruption and influence by the Israel lobby than actual policies.
One could say, "I have no interest in international politics". I think this was kind of the take of Mamdani during the election. He had baggage of course, but handled it well by side stepping the debate.
